Donor embryo
Becoming the recipient of a donated embryo(s) is a unique and cost-effective alternative to start or grow your family. By using a donated embryo(s), individuals and couples who might not otherwise have been able, are experiencing the joys of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood.
We’re pleased to offer patients the ability to receive donated embryos from either a known (direct) donor or an unidentified donor — another patient at SGF.
Financial options
SGF offers both single-cycle treatment, known as Fee-for-Service, and our Shared Risk 100% Refund Program for Donor Embryo Recipients. Both options give patients peace of mind in knowing the upfront cycle costs.
Shared Risk 100% Refund Program
Shady Grove Fertility’s exclusive Shared Risk 100% Refund Program is available for qualified, self-pay patients using in vitro fertilization (IVF), donor eggs, donor embryos, and/or gestational carrier.
Of the total Shared Risk 100% Refund Program participants, 82 percent take home a baby, and the rest receive a full refund to use for other family building options. Now patients can pursue treatment without the worry of cost versus chances of success, and without sacrificing high-quality medical care. Pregnancy success rates in this program are comparable to the results of all IVF and donor egg cycles.
How our 100% refund program works
Patients selecting this program may attempt up to six IVF, or donor egg, or donor embryo cycles and any subsequent frozen embryo transfers (FETs) for a flat fee. When you take a baby home from the hospital, our Center has earned the deposit. In the event the attempts are unsuccessful, we will refund 100 percent of the deposit. You may withdraw from the program at any time during treatment. Some costs not included in this program are:
Patients achieving a pregnancy on the first attempt will pay more with this program than the traditional fee-for-service payment methods. On the other hand, if you don’t take a baby home, Shady Grove Fertility assumes the bulk of the costs, hence the name, “Shared Risk.” Patients using donor eggs, or donor embryos, and are eligible for this program.
About embryo donors
In order to qualify as an Embryo Donor at Shady Grove Fertility, donors must meet the following criteria:
- Embryo(s) must have been frozen January 2009 or later; utilizing the freezing technique known as vitrification.
- Donors must meet an age cut off limit, in regards to their age at the time the embryo(s) were created and frozen:
Female patients must have been 38 or younger at the time the embryo(s) were created.
Male patients must have been 49 or younger at the time the embryo(s) were frozen. - Donors may donate one or more embryo(s).
- Donors who have undergone preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)—used in cases if both partners are known carriers of an inheritable genetic disorder—are ineligible to donate.
- Donors who have undergone preimplantation genetic screening (PGS)—used to look for abnormalities in chromosome number—are eligible to donate all normal embryo(s).
- Donors who used an egg donor are eligible, as long as the egg donor was 38 years or younger.
- Donors who used a sperm donor are eligible, as long as the sperm donor was 49 years or younger.
- Only embryo(s) created and stored at Shady Grove Fertility are eligible for donation.
- Only embryo(s) frozen at the blastocyst stage can be donated.
