My husband and I were trying to get pregnant for over a year. Nothing happened. A friend of ours mentioned Shady Grove Fertility and after reading successful reviews from patients, my hubby and I decided to give it a go. We were both nervous about everything, but we knew this was our chance to start a family.

Dr. Beall was amazing! She talked us through everything that would happen and what to prepare for when we started with IUI. It was definitely a process. Between all the tests and running back and forth to appointments, we were exhausted, but we were determined to keep going.  

The first two IUI treatments were unsuccessful, which was draining.  

It was so disappointing to go to all the appointments and then receive negative results. To hear you’re not pregnant after all the work that you were doing was heartbreaking.  

During the third IUI treatment, we were hopeful! We knew we would not give up on having a family. I was at work waiting for the nurse to call with an update on my blood results. I was so used to hearing, “Your test results came back negative, so you’re not pregnant.” I was preparing myself for that result. I was feeling numb, nervous, and ready to burst into tears as I waited for the bad news. 

Good news ahead

I picked up the phone and the nurse’s voice was different — it was happy!  

She told me, “Congratulations, you are 4.5 weeks pregnant!”  

I couldn’t believe it! I immediately called my husband and gave him the good news! He didn’t believe me and wanted to see my face, so we FaceTimed each other. We were both crying tears of happiness as we felt thankful and blessed! We took a pregnancy test just to put our minds at ease, and it was positive! 

My pregnancy was harder than expected – I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and put on bed rest from my second trimester through birth. I refused to let that get me down. Hubby and I were just so happy to be having a baby.  

Welcoming baby

On Monday, August 23, 2021, at 9:21 a.m., our baby boy Ali was born!  

He’s amazing! His personality is so unbelievable at times. He loves to smile when taking pictures. Ali is pure joy to be around. 

Trust the process

It feels amazing being parents to Ali! I discovered that anything can happen if you just trust the process. I’ve also learned to be patient and good things will happen within due time. I want to remind others not to give up on something that’s important to them.  

Throughout the process, I reminded myself, “I am here for a reason – to build a family.”
