Dr. Cori Tanrikut is one of Shady Grove Fertility’s newest reproductive urologist and male fertility specialist. She currently see’s patients in SGF’s Baltimore metro locations: Towson, Bel-Air, Waldorf, Columbia, Annapolis, and Baltimore Harbor.
With male factor infertility accounting for nearly 40 to 50 percent of all infertility cases, there has become an increasing demand for expanded male fertility services. Now, patients in the Baltimore region will have easier, more convenient access to a suite of male fertility services – services that preciously required a referral to an urologist outside of the practice. Her services include no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy, male infertility evaluation, and other male surgical procedures.

Q: WHY DID YOU BECOME A UROLOGIST?
A: As a medical student at Georgetown on my surgical rotation, I was intrigued by the variety of problems that are treated by urologists and the balance between surgical and medical management of patients. During my residency training at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, I was drawn to the subspecialty of reproductive urology, in particular, because of the team-oriented approach that is used to help couples conceive and I loved the precise, demanding nature of the microsurgical procedures.
Q: WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST INSPIRING ABOUT BEING A MALE FERTILITY SPECIALIST?
A: Each patient and couple inspires me to do my very best to help them achieve a happy outcome. I love receiving birth announcements, holiday cards…I am so grateful to have the privilege of helping them through what can be a difficult journey. My favorite office visits are when a former fertility patient comes back to talk with me about having a vasectomy – then I know we’ve really done our jobs well!
Q: WHY DID YOU WANT TO JOIN SHADY GROVE FERTILITY?
A: As a reproductive urologist, to have the opportunity to focus on male fertility from both a clinical and research perspective is unique and very exciting. SGF has a collegial team of exceptionally bright people who are experts in the field, with a strong emphasis on collaboration for excellent patient care. SGF’s ethos of doing what’s best for the patient aligns with what drew me to medicine in the first place.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND WHY DO YOU ENJOY THEM?
A: I love dancing, Pilates, travel, and sharing good meals and laughs with great friends. In my down time, I find particular peace at the beach where I can unwind and relax with a good book.
Q: WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT WOULD SURPRISE MOST PEOPLE?
A: I’m very shy!
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
A: Perceptive, thoughtful – I think because I am shy, I try to set others at ease so that we can establish a meaningful connection. I want my patients to feel comfortable working with me to achieve our mutual goal of building their families.
Q: WHAT’S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
A: I can’t say that I really have a bucket list! I try to live each day to its fullest and create happiness for myself and those around me. Much of that includes doing more of the things I love – food, travel, friends – so that is a nonspecific bucket list, of sorts.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO HELPING PATIENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING?
A: I do my best to convey to patients that I care about the challenges they are going through and that I will do everything I can every step of the way, both with medical knowledge and emotional support, to help them along this difficult path.
